Redeemer Community Church began as a small bible study in the Fall of 2014. A group of five people gathered together for a time of bible study and accountability. The five were: Cindy Tidwell, Lee Guyton, Debra Guyton, Stephanie Scott and Matt Scott. During this bible study, God began to stir their hearts toward a vision of a different model for a local church. This vision was one of a different structure, strategy, and culture for a local church in the heart of Oneonta, Alabama. Over the next few months, the core group of five continued to meet to seek God's will for this vision.
On a Sunday afternoon in January 2015, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the core group gathered together to decide that it was time to move forward. Out of this gathering, the church received a name: Redeemer Community Church. The name contains our foundation (our Redeemer) and our focus (our Community).
As plans continued toward our public launch on Easter 2015, another couple was added to the core group: Kevin and Janna Faust. With the core group in place, we began a community bible study on Monday nights. The bible study continued to grow and provided the momentum for our public launch.
As a part of our preparation for our launch, we located a place of worship: Neely Arts. With Neely Arts located in downtown Oneonta, it was the perfect location. The location communicates that we want to be in the heart of our community. Also, we were able to secure a worship leader: Randy Beason. With these two components in place, Redeemer Community Church began preview services a month before the launch.
After a few preview services, Redeemer Community Church was ready for our public launch. On April 5, 2015 (Easter Sunday), Redeemer Community Church became a reality. In planning the launch, the core group hoped for at least 50 in attendance. God blessed us with 166 in attendance!
With fully installed elders and our first membership, what was once just on paper has become real; the vision has become a reality.
In May 2017, we moved into our newly renovated facility in Downtown Oneonta. This facility consists of our Worship Center, Offices, and The Loft (a beautiful upstairs gathering area).
In addition to facilities, we were able to add a full staff at the Oneonta Campus with three full-time positions and two part-time positions.
On April 21, 2019 (Easter Sunday), at only four years old, we launched our second campus in Altoona, Alabama. This campus has its own staff (Campus Pastor, Worship Leader, and Director of Students), but it remains Redeemer Community Church. The Altoona Campus has the same values and vision as the main campus in Oneonta. This is why we use the phrase, One Church . . . Two Locations!
We are looking forward to what God has for us next as our story continues!
